Winners of three in a row (including
4 of their last 5),Venom was one of the league’s hottest squads coming
into the semifinal round. They got a chance to show their stuff
against another hot team – defending champion Quiet Storm. For
most of the season teams have had trouble stopping league newcomer Shinobu
Nagata but Quiet put forth one of their staple defensive efforts, holding
the star guard to just 6 points. Picking up the slack were Scott
Yun (team-high 18 pts, 6 reb, 3 ast, 2 stl) and Pierre Greene (14 pts,
7 reb, 5 ast, 2 blk), in his only appearance of the season. Quiet
made a conscious effort to limit Venom’s scoring opportunities.
They lead by as much as 15 before Venom made a late run.
That run was cut short due to a fantastic effort from Anthony Perez.
Perez scored 12 of Quiet’s first 17 points (including their first
8 points) en route to a game-high 22 pts. Perez also contributed
2 reb, 4 ast, 1 stl & 1 blk while Steve Bollman provided inside
support with 10 pts, 9 reb, 3 stl & 1 blk. Quiet also showed
their prowess from the charity stripe, going 19-26. Sixteen of
Quiet’s final 18 points came from made free throws - that will win
you games in the clutch every time. Quiet’s defensive efforts
are what pushed them to the championship game for the second consecutive
