(61) Forwarders vs. (53) Raptors, Week 9
In a game that would decide 2nd place in the Blue Division, including the all-important first-round bye, the Forwarders outplayed, outhustled, and outsmarted a stunned Raptors squad. Forwarders first prioirity was defense and they utilized a box-and-1 type scheme against the AABL's second-leading scorer, Mel Wright. The D flustered Wright the entire game as he never found a groove and scored his lowest point total in his 7 AABL seasons (as far as I can remember, at least)-- just 7 pts. But every plan needs to have execution and Ryan Pauling, in this case, was the executioner-- putting the clamps on Wright for the full 40 and also busting out a stat stuffer game with 22 pts with 2 threes, 9 rebs, 2 asts, 1 stl, 1 blk. Raptors were puzzled as to what to do about the situation but they managed to maintain distance with the Forwarders especially towards the end of the game when the Raps made their usual late-game charge. Raps' Kyle Hermoso stepped it up and picked up the offensive workload, scoring 21 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts, 1 stl. But the Raps were missing too much offense to overtake the Forwarders who go into the playoffs looking as good and confident as ever-- with a gameplan to boot. FD
