(39) Rebels vs. (73) Squires, Week 9
At the beginning of the season, this seemed like a tight matchup because of the dominant Squires and the Rebels who made a surprise run at last year's semi-finals. Unfortunately the Rebels didn't hold up to their end of the bargain throughout this season, mustering up just one win and needing a shocking victory of the Squires to reach the playoffs. Squires manhandled the Rebels, posting 4 players in double figures led by Andy Sanderson's torrid shooting, busting em up for 21 pts, 7 threes, 5 rebs, 4 stls. Squires led by a dub at the half, 39-19, and they never looked back. Squires go into the playoffs looking strong as ever although they go in without the services of resident big man, Jeremy Calazara. Rebels' Brandon Rice has been an exciting new talent to watch in the AABL, scoring 22 pts, 5 rebs, 5 stls, 1 blk against some of the league's best competition. And Joe Marlowe has been steady this year (scoring 11 pts with 6 rebs, 4 asts, 2 blks), but too much offensive burden seemed to wear him down. Rebels will have to sit out a year to give it another go.
