(62) Venom vs. (59) Bulldogs, Week 2
This was the nail-biter of the day as the previous six games were decided by an average of 24.5 points. Venom brings to the league an exciting brand of basketball – excellent guard play capped with lots of perimeter shooting. Almost half of their field goals came from behind the arc (11 3’s as a team). They needed every one of those triples as they were able to hold off an always tough Bulldogs squad. Scott Yun (7 reb, 3 ast, 2 stl) led Venom with 17 points, including four 3’s. S. Nagata chipped in 13 pts (three 3’s), 5 reb, 4 ast, 3 stl and 1 blk. Nic Torres was able to hold the fort inside with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Jon Allmond, the reigning league MVP, failed to disappoint with a game-high 22 to go along with 10 reb, 2 ast, 3 stl and 1 blk. Newcomer Curtis Pender got into the mix with 14 pts, 10 reb, 4 ast and 3 blk. They and the rest of the Bulldogs had a good game; they just had trouble defending the perimeter. Despite this they had a chance to send the game into overtime but Matt Castaneda’s three-point attempt came off the rim as the final horn sounded. jv
