(42) #6 Raptors vs. (67) #1 Quiet Storm, Championship
Quiet Storm, a favorite throughout
the season to take home the league title for a second consecutive year,
knows the difficulty in defending their crown. All season they
got their opponents’ best efforts. They suffered one setback
– a ten point loss to the Bulldogs in Week 8. But instead of
sulking they used it as a learning tool and the loss motivated them to play
even better. In the championship game they showed their dominance
as they won going away. Vince White came off the bench for Quiet
Storm and led his team with 18 pts, 4 eb & 4 stl. Amazingly,
the championship was only the fourth game he suited up – the second of the day. That may have worked to Quiet’s advantage as the Raptors
didn’t face him when they last met in Week 5. The Raptors lacked
a strong inside presence for much of the playoffs and that was finally
exploited – they just didn’t have anyone who could bang down low
with both White and bigman Steve Bollman (6 pts, 3 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl
& 2 blk). That being the case, Quiet also enjoyed a 30-17
rebounding advantage. Mel Wright, despite the lopsided loss, never
gave up and played his heart out. He led all scorers with 20 points,
8 reb, 2 ast & 1 blk. Kyle Hermoso was the Raptors’ only
other double-digit scorer – he finished with 13 pts (6-7 FT), 3 reb
& 1 stl. On the perimeter Anthony Perez had another strong
game, scoring 12 pts for Quiet. Ultimately fatigue may have caught
up with the Raptors – Quiet Storm turned up the defense in the second
half and held their opponents to 16 points after halftime (including
just 4 FG’s). The game's final minutes were a Quiet Storm celebration as they routed the Raptors on their way to a second consecutive AABL Championship. JV
